Honk! is a musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Ugly Duckling, incorporating a theme of pro-tolerance.
"The Ugly Duckling", “Honk!” tells the story of an odd looking baby duck, Ugly, and his quest to find his mother.
Soon after Ugly is born, he is seduced away by a wily Cat who wants to eat Ugly for dinner. Eventually, Ugly manages to escape but has no idea how to return home.
Along his way, he encounters a beautiful swan, Penny, tangled in a fishing line.
After saving her, the two birds fall in love. However, she must return to her flock and fly south for the winter. Eventually, Ugly’s mother finds him frozen in snow.
Luckily, her warm tears manage to thaw him out and he comes back to life – as a handsome swan! Soon, Ugly is reunited with Penny and two swans decide to live the rest of their days in the same pond as Ugly’s loyal mother.

CHRISTMAS AT THE PALACE THEATRE
Bruce
James Productions are pleased to announce that we will be producing
THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff On Sea
for the forthcoming Christmas season.
"As the Blitz rages in London, four young children are evacuated to a mysterious
country house. There they discover an enchanted wardrobe that leads them into
an adventure more exciting than they could ever have imagined. Stepping through
the wardrobe door, they are transported into the frozen world of Narnia. Can
the children help the great lion Aslan defeat the evil White Witch and break
the spell that has held the land locked in Winter for a hundred years?"
For a venue that enjoys such a tenuous existence - always seemingly teetering on the edge of closure, the Palace continues to hold a special place in Southendians’ hearts.

Under 26? Want to see some fantastic shows for FREE?
A Night Less Ordinary is an Arts Council England scheme in association with Metro, which will provide 618,000 free theatre tickets to anyone under 26 in more than 200 venues across England.
The last few months have seen much external and internal activity around the Palace – a list that includes charity walks, ghost hunts, musical workshops and the normal selection of fantastic productions from both the Dixon and our infamous rake.
The plot is very simple: The girl dressed as a boy who is the son of a man dressed as a woman, will win the other girl (surprisingly dressed as a girl), with the assistance of a person(s) dressed in an animal skin. Try explaining that to an American, German or someone from the Far East. Whether the show is set in China, the Never-Never-Land or the City of London it will contain all the aspects regarded as necessary to a pantomime.
On Friday 31st October the Palace Theatre is holding a fund
raiser for the Palace in the form of a ghost hunting experience!
It will be run between local paranormal investigative group Aspire
and theatre staff.
Places are limited as it will be an intimate experience, and you will access
backstage areas of the theatre not normally open to the public.
Tickets £20
Box Office: 01702 351135
Event starting around 11pm and continuing until the early hours!!

Outstanding Offering For The New Year
Ticket holders have also been privy to a diverse and promising start to the programme for 2008.
It is also important and currently relevant to look beyond the strong physical emblem of the stage
The prenuptial agreement around the busiest period of the theatre calendar takes careful programme planning at the best of times and this year did not disappoint in the build up to the all time classic children’s story - ‘Toad Of Toad Hall’ whose month long run would take us seamlessly into 2008.
