| How the Tory
council can do this
to such a lovely
old theather as the
palace I don't
know!We should vote
them out when the
time come's!
It's a real sham
let all hope the
palace will reopen
very soon.
All the best

to see all the

out.I could cry,I
just can not
understand why it
has been done!The
palace was always
so lovly I pray it

| I always hoped this
wouldn't happen. In
fact i was sure it
wouldn't. Where
such security came
from i really can
not answer
myself.
In my mind as an
italian tourist,
the Palace was a
certainty like the
London Tower or the
Big Ben, something
that nobody would
ever bother or dare
to attempt . Just
like them it was
simply above the
human vicissitudes
and bound to
exist.
From La Scala in
Milan to The Savoy
and The Strand in
London or the RSC
in Stratford
passing through a
myriad of local
venues, nowhere
else could I
experience the same
feeling of
intimacy, the same
perfect balance
between opposites,
luxury without
ostentation , fine
class without
overwhelming
opulence. I no
longer felt I was
foreigner.
Someone said that
"It ought to
be drama to be
theatre ". I
don't know if that
is true but if it
is, this is a good
example.
In my mind I look
back at all the
characters that I
saw coming to life
on the Palace stage
and the ones on the
“Save Southend
Theatres Day”. I
can see the
similarity.
Funds never lack,
by their own
definition.
Whenever the monies
are not forthcoming
you can conclude
you rate poorly on
someonelse's
priority list.
These words come
across my mind
while listening to
Roy Marsden's
intervention . His
figure and severe
look still tower
over the scene just
as I used to
remember him.
I happen to think
that if this was
one of his old
inquiries the case
would be already
solved.
But there's no
logic here, no set
rules or
irony......or
perhaps there was
too much of them
all.
I truly hope the
wheel could turn
once more for all
of us as it has
over these last
years.
My flight ticket
will be ready for
the occasion.
Sincerely,
Maria

| Frank,I think the
finances have been
gone over many
time's in the local
papers.We all know
the the powers to
be have got it
wrong and there is
NO real saving by
closing the Palace!
As for break even
point this would
depend on the
show.You can not
buy the Palace but
can take over
management .

| The website says
"best trading
year ever, selling
22,500 seats for 51
performances last
year".
How do the finances
work, what is the
break-even seat
sales, and what
would it cost to
buy the Palace? |
